Our Yorkshire Dales Wedding | Ruth Atkinson Photography

Hey,

This post has been in my drafts for so long! My wedding was a whole three months ago and I thought it was high time that I shared some of my favourite photographs from the day, by our super talented photographer, Ruth Atkinson (and her husband/second shooter, Tom!).

I hope you enjoy looking through my little selection and apologies for the picture-heavy post - it's so hard to narrow them down when there's so many beautiful shots!

I'm so pleased with the images. As someone who doesn't like photos of themselves (great trait to have as a blogger - NOT!), I was surprised at how in love with the pictures I've become - even more so seeing them each time.

It didn't turn out to be the sunny July day I'd anticipated but given that we originally wanted to get married around my birthday in October (I'd always imagined an autumn wedding but the limitations of our ceremony venue meant we had to bring it forward), the grey day ended up looking superbly autumnal! I'd thought about my colours with autumn in mind and then couldn't bear to change what I'd dreamt up despite the change of season, so the tones we chose ended up matching the moody weather perfectly.

I particularly love how the flowers turned out. I chose quite a mix of colours - mostly because I really wanted the minky purple/dusky lavender colour of my bridesmaids' dresses but then as old hall we had as our reception venue had a lot of red in it, I mixed in lots of deep red roses. I knew that I definitely wanted a flower crown on the day and after initially being a little overwhelmed by the size of it, I didn't feel like a proper bride until I put it on then totally owned it all day!

Of course my beautiful Sarah Seven lace dress was something else I love looking back at in the photos - I wish I could wear it again!

The style of Ruth's photography was exactly what we wanted; documentary style and completely unintrusive so that we were free to enjoy our day comfortably. A wedding is so personal and for me, starting the day off at my family home and being in my hometown made it the more special and to have a photographer that you're happy to let in and feel comfortable with is just so important. As a couple, we felt that Ruth and Tom really 'got' us and we're so pleased that we chose them to capture our day.

If you're a bride to be and think you might benefit from any advice, please feel free to get in touch. Definitely as give my previous post on pre-wedding build up a read too!

Here's a list of my North West suppliers who I wouldn't hesitate to recommend!

Kosmonaut Presents: The Mancorialist Exhibition

Hey,

I love Manchester and the fact that there's always something cool going on in our city. One thing I'm proud of is being part of Manchester's eclectic fashion scene. Manchester's sense of style is ultra diverse, creative and entrenched in music culture - making it one of the most exciting places to be in my opinion!

Since 2012, Manchester has been host to a renowned street photographer, capturing the city's uniquely stylish residents: The Mancorialist.

Named in homage to the famous New York-based street style photographer, The Sartorialist, the anonymous style hunter created the Tumblr site ‘as a way of interacting with Manchester and its people’.

The enigmatic photographer has launched an exhibition of work for the very first time, in partnership with one of the Northern Quarter's best venues, Kosmonaut.

I was fortunate enough to be invited along to the opening night of the exhibition with a handful of other bloggers and stylists, to take part in a street street challenge with clothing from Goodstock - a charity shop with a difference on Oxford Road.

Above: the vintage shirt I wore as part of my style challenge outfit

I decided to go all out in colourful clashing vintage for my outfit, choosing a purple and gold baroque printed shirt and an incredible heavily-embellished sequin jacket.

If you like my outfit, I'd urge anyone in Manchester to head check out the Goodstock shop, which is full of vintage pieces at really reasonable prices.

The exhibition stays at Kosmonaut until Sunday 28th June and is well worth seeing if you're in the North West.

A MCRFW Meet and OOTD

Hello!

A couple of weekends ago, I met with the Manchester Fashion Week gang for a chat about things to come, a browse through some new pieces from Ark Clothing and take part in a shoot with the lovely Charlotte of WamBam Photography.

The meet was held at the rather grand Radisson Edwardian hotel where we were treated to refreshments and had a good nosey around the hotel including their gorgeous spa.

Browsing some of Ark's new Spring arrivals which feature lovely pastel jumpers and collared dresses.

I loved the tartan dress most.

Chilling with these babes whilst waiting to have our photo taken; Katie, Danielle and Lola.

My outfit of the day:

Choker- eBay
Oversized shirt- charity shop
Lace bralet- Forever 21
Riding pants- American Apparel
Bag- Vivienne Westwood
Boots- eBay

It was great to have our outfit photos done by a professional for a change, certainly an improvement on my shots! (Sorry cameraman boyfriend).

We went up to the top floor of the hotel to have our shots done against the huge windows. The view across the city was awesome.

I love this shot of us all on the glass staircase. Look forward to seeing these girls again very soon.

Love,

Bowler hats and beauty buys

Hello again! Wow, on it aren't I? Two posts in a matter of days!

To be honest I haven't got a great deal else to do as I'm off work for a week or so because I'm waiting for my CRB check to come through (another annoyance of working at an airport!).

You will also be pleased to hear that I got a marketing internship after Thursday's interview. Though, in a strange twist of events, it isn't with the charity that I applied for. They (the charity) thought another candidate was better suited to the organisation; however one of the interviewers liked me so much that she wants me to intern at her company!

So yeah, off work for the time being, I took some sneaky photos whilst I was alone in the flat yesterday because I rather liked my outfit (N.B: I was popping out to town- I DON'T look like this when lounging about doing nothing). Here it is...

Bowler hat: £3, Primark; Earrings: 50p, car boot sale; Leather Jacket: Topshop sale; Top: Topshop;  Bag:  £8,  vintage fair; Arty-a-like: eBay; Belt: 50p, charity shop; Shorts: £5, COW vintage Bham (bought as jeans); Shoes: Aldo
I've been messing about on Photoshop as I'd like to get into editing my photos more and giving them more of a vintage look. Constructive criticism appreciated!

I love this bag and totally forgot about it, isn't finding old stuff in your wardrobe awesome?

Beauty-ful Buys

Yes so beauty! Not my usual forté ey?

A little something about me: I love ANYTHING coconut flavoured/scented and I have scoured the earth (okay, several shops in England) for a decent, but not expensive (I still refuse to pay what the Body Shop charge for most of their smellies!) coconut shower wash.

Ladies... I believe I have found the answer.

I spotted this new range in Bodycare and thought I'd give it a go. I got the shower cream at 79p (I believe) and the dry shampoo at, I think, £1.49.

I can confirm that both products are excellent! The shower cream is amazing value for money- it's really rich, with loads of lather and smells amazing!

The dry shampoo was impressive too. It's a bit cheaper than Batiste and smells really nice. To be honest I find some of the Batiste fragrances a bit sickly and overpowering but this one smells gorgeous. I'm converted!

The brand is called Inecto (yep, never heard of it!) and unfortunately, neither of my products, from the 'Pure Coconut' range are on the website! I assure you that they're still in the Bodycare stores.

I think I'll be trying the body scrub and moisturising lotion next.

Hope you enjoyed my one off beauty tip!

She works hard for the money...

Well, not the money, nor the love- just the degree!

As you've probably noticed, I haven't posted on my blog for a while; not because I can't be bothered but because I am literally drowning in a sea of uni work!

As a final year student, it's all getting a bit much at the moment but fortunately, it'll all be over soon- either via a triumphant hand-in, or death by stress.

As I haven't really had time to do anything for myself, I thought I'd give you a little update on my project (a creative fashion magazine- have a look at the blog!)

I've been all-over the place this week, out on location for the magazine's photoshoots (there's some behind-the-scenes posts on the blog)

Today I was in the studio, where we photographed the various fashion DIY's featured in the magazine.

I wanted to show you this one in particular, because I think it turned out really well!

It's my take on the AMAZING McQueen knuckleduster clutches. You'll have to get hold of a magazine for more details, but it was a hell of a lot cheaper than these beauties:

£1,140, Alexandermcqueen.com
£835, Net-a-porter.com
£1,157, zappos.couture.com
I got my makeup done at the shoot for my little 'Editor's' picture in the magazine- first time I've ever had someone else do my makeup! I don't think our MUA was too happy with me; I'm a bit funny with people poking things in my eyes and kept blinking, not to mention the watery eyes!

It was a bit heavier than what I'm used to, though I was assured it would come out lighter in the pictures!

The makeup was heavier than this at the time, I've smeared over it with several tissues and washed the lipstick away with a much-needed brew since!

I also posted this picture as I realised I haven't put one up since I dyed my hair red. And yes, it doesn't look very red in the picture! It's been red a few weeks and inevitably faded quite a bit; I'll be sure to post one as soon as I re-do it!

In other news...

I remembered something interesting I did which wasn't to do with my project- but someone else's!

The fabulous Purple Boot Media are creating a series of 'webisodes' on fashion bloggers and asked to do an interview with little old me! (have a look here). I'm quite nervous to see how it turns out; I hate how I look AND sound on camera (hideous voice, thank god I work with the written word!) so it should make for, erm, interesting viewing!

They've already filmed some awesome bloggers like Jack of Über Brum (a Birmingham street style blog) and one of my personal favourites, Jazmine of Jazzabelle's Diary.

Exciting!
