In The Pink: Summer Casuals

Hey,

Here's an outfit I threw on after work; seizing the opportunity of the warm evening to walk down to a close by beer garden for a few drinks in the sun.

It was so sunny, I couldn't even open my eyes without my sunglasses! Also shadows galore in these photos...

Clubmaster sunglasses - Rayban
Faux septum ring - Elisha Francis*
Colourful beaded choker - Primark
Pink orb tee - Vivienne Westwood Anglomania @ Repertoire Fashion*
Blue skinny jeans - Jailbird Jeans*
Chunky patent mules - ASOS

I was seriously lacking in cool, casual tees so when Repertoire Fashion got in touch to see if there was anything I'd like from their huge collection of designer brands, I immediately went for this colourful orb tee from Vivienne Westwood's Anglomania line.

I'm not necessarily a pink person but I thought this bold colour would look wicked for summer.

I've casually paired it with my new skinny jeans from Jailbird. These high-rise blue jeans are amazing value at just £23.99 (currently in sale). The denim is really thick with a slight stretch, and I like that the cuffs have contrast binding so they look good when turned up too.

I made the look a bit more pub-friendly with some chunky mid-height heels. I also popped in one of my new faux septum rings from the Elisha Francis Bomani Woman collection. These are great for adding a bit of edge if you don't have the bottle or maybe an appropriate job to be able to sport a real septum piercing.

I've met Elisha before and she has real talent for jewellery making and a fantastic creative eye. As well as making gorgeous pieces of jewellery with crystals and semi-precious gemstones, she also has an incredible line of customised trainers.

What's your go-to finishing touch to your casual outfits?

(Bank) Holiday in the Sun

Hello!

Hope you're all enjoying the remainder of the Bank Holiday weekend.

I'm so happy that we had some nice weather for once. I'm lucky enough to live right by a big park so thought it would be a shame to waste the sunshine and not take some photos.

Scrunchie- Junk Love
Sunglasses- Ray Ban
Earrings- DIY (see below)
Cropped tee- Forever 21
Belt- charity shop
Jeans- American Apparel
Sandals- Jeffrey Campbell (Mynt buckle sandal)

I don't think these Jeffrey Campbell Mynt gold buckle sandals have had an airing on the blog yet. I bought them in the Christmas sales after falling in love with them last year.

To be honest, I'm wearing them just for show; they absolutely KILL my feet. All my other JCs are so comfy so I was really surprised to find that these hurt so much. I think it's all the buckles, they rub like every edge of my foot. I had these on for about 15 minutes in the photos and I've now got two huge blisters. They are so beautiful but thinking that I may have to sell them!

If you follow me on Instagram, you'll have seen me sporting these green pompom earrings at several opportunities this week.

I've seen them around the web and thought it would be easy enough to make some myself.

I picked up these fluffy pompoms for 30p each from a haberdashery in Manchester. You can of course make your own pompoms pretty easily with wool but I wanted some extra fluffy ones like these!

I got into making my own jewellery a while ago (with the intention to sell it but never got around to making enough...) so I have boxes full of all the bits and bobs (findings they're called in the biz).

I used gold earring hooks and some chain to dangle them from and then just attached a jump ring to the end of the chains and sewed them to the pompoms. You could of course just use a length of string or ribbon and sew that to the pompoms.

I love going to my local bead shop to pick up cool charms and once you've got all the findings, you'd be surprised at how easy it is to create a necklace, bracelet or earrings- cheap too!

I always found eBay a good place to pick things up cheaply. For beginners, it's really easy to get ready-made gold or silver plated chains in different lengths with the closures attached, then you'll just need jump rings (small hoops) to attach to your charm before you put it on your chain. You'll also need a set of pliers; if you search 'jewellery making pliers' you'll find collections of the different sorts to prise open jump rings, nip close the jump rings, cut wire etc.

If anyone would find a post on jewellery-making tips useful, do let me know.

How have you been spending your Bank Holiday weekend?

I went to Manchester Fashion Week on Saturday evening so look out for a post on that soon!

Blue Jeans

Hello!

Last weekend I didn't have much to do so thought I'd pop into a few of the charity shops near me.

I was so pleased I did because I got an awesome new pair of jeans! After saying I'd given up on looking for the perfect pair of vintage high-waisted 'Mom' style jeans and consequently bought the American Apparel ones, I found these babies.

They were just £3.99 and still had the tags on! Despite being 'new', I think they're a good few years old from the style and cut. Being petite length they make good ankle bashers too.

Gold chain- charity shop
Crop top- Forever 21
Belt- charity shop
Shoes- Dr Martens

Sorry if you're bored of seeing the pewter Dr Martens brogues- absolutely rinsing them at the moment; love them!

I'm loving the 90s revival at the moment and am a die hard fan of high-waisted anything so these are just perfect.

Funny story about these jeans. They're pretty tight and first time I tried them on I bent straight down to do another turn up and pulled a muscle in my stomach. It was agony and having read up on it online I convinced myself that I'd torn an abdominal muscle so iced it and was waited on hand and foot all night. In the morning I felt fine! Boyfriend wasn't impressed haha.

Have you uncovered any bargains recently?

On the Road Again...

Hello!

I feel like I've been all over the place these past few weekends, visiting family and work stuff. Clifford the Clio has seen his fair share of the country and I've neglected my usual weekend duties of slobbing around in my onesie, shopping and doing a bit of blogging!

These snaps were grabbed just before setting off to Warwick to see Chris' parents a couple of weekends ago.

Sunglasses: Ray Ban
Fringed Leather Jacket: Topshop (sale, old)
Top: Urban Outfitters (sale, very old!)
Belt: Charity Shop
Jeans: American Apparel
Pewter Brogues: Dr Martens
Vintage Head Holdall: Charity Shop

I'm wearing my new American Apparel high-waist jeans. After getting frustrated trying to find the perfect pair of vintage jeans, I flirted with the idea of getting the new Topshop 'Mom' ones; though I'd seen these and loved them but I do tend to find AA a bit over-priced. Luckily, an email popped into my inbox a while ago with a 30% off offer so I snapped them up. I had a nightmare getting the right size though so be warned- try them on in the shop first!

The old school Head holdall bag was quite the bargain- a £2.99 charity shop buy, perfect for a weekend away.

It was surprisingly sunny so I felt the need to break out the Bans for the first time this year! I don't know why but I enjoy driving so much more with a pair of sunglasses on.

I think sunglasses instantly make almost anyone 10x cooler; I recently watched David Lynch's Wild at Heart so for no reason other than they look awesome driving across America in a pair of shades, here's messed up lovers Sailor and Lula.

(Fairly obscure reference there but it's an awesome film- watch it!)

Have you been on any road trips recently?

Burgundy- best left to 1970s news anchors?

First things first, I ended up working this morning so sadly no car boot trip BUT I have managed to wangle a rare day off tomorrow so plan to journey up to Kendal, where I believe many charity shops lie. I'll report back with any finds.

So why am I alluding to a popular Will Ferrell movie? Because I have some new burgundy shorts!

It all started with a new pile of vintage deadstock jeans I was given a few days ago.

Some of these look pretty old, especially the brown coloured pair on top.

These aren't particularly nice, or particularly big for that matter (23" waist!) but could possibly hold some value- check out the label above; retro!

Sadly, the only pair that fit were a rather unattractive, wide bottomed burgandy pair. One saving grace was the fact that these were only a size 27- pretty chuffed with that!

A few chops later...

... and these are what i have:

Not sure I carry them off but might give them a go on holiday. I think the colour might render them more appealing in autumn worn with some black opaque tights.

Speaking of denim shorts, rember those Levi orange tabs I found in a charity shop recently?

Here they are after being chopped into cut-off shorts:

What do you think? I didn't want to cut these too short- I figured they can always be turned up.

Did you notice the top I was wearing in the first pictures?

It's an old vest of my Dad's that he picked up in Rhodes before I was born. I ripped off the bottom to make it cropped.

There's a few of these types of tops around on the high street at the moment; although less so as the autumn stock is coming in.

This one is currently in Topshop at £16:

This London top, also from Topshop, definitely channels the 'tourist' theme of my vest. This one is in the sale at £10 (was £18), which isn't bad- mine cost nothing though!
